Switchboard DescriptionNo operator listen or ring keys. You used an Operator's cord. A subscriber would ring in and a piece of metal dropped off the clapper to indicate which line rang in. The operator tok the operator cord and plugged into the jack and pused up the line signal. She talked into her transmitter to get the information of the called line, then pulled out her plug and put it into the called line to see if it was in use. If it was not in use, she would ring the code and put up the patc between calling cand called line. She could monitor the patch by plugging into the coorrect jack with her operators cord. When no talking was heard, she pulled the patch coard. This was a really slow way to complete a call.
